What is Bank-On-Line?

Bank-On-Line is an Internet banking service of American State Bank. Users of this service can access their accounts, transfer funds, and pay bills over the Internet.

What do I need to get started on Bank-On-Line?

You need access to the Internet from home or work. That’s all. Enrollment forms are available online or at any American State Bank location. Once the form is complete, you can fax, mail or deliver it to an ASB location near you.

What does Bank-On-Line cost?

For personal and business accounts, there is no charge for the basic Bank-On-Line service. Basic service includes unlimited access to any of your accounts. You can view balances and account detail, transfer funds between accounts, pay bills, export history to your computer, and perform many other functions — all without charge.

What kind of equipment and software do I need to use Bank-On-Line?

All you need is Internet access. If you are currently accessing the Internet, you will need nothing extra.

What type of accounts can be accessed using Bank-On-Line?

All Checking, Savings, Time Deposits (including IRAs), and Loans can be accessed.

I have a loan with your bank, but no checking account. Can I sign-up for Bank-On-Line so that I can view my loan information?

No. Bank-On-Line users must have an American State Bank checking account.

What kind of account information is available to me?

It depends on the type of account. Basic information, such as balance and interest, are included on all types of accounts. Transaction history is included with checking and savings accounts.

How current is the information?

All account information is current as of the beginning of the day. If electronic transactions, such as Direct Deposit and Social Security payments, are received during the day we will “memo” post them to your account so that you will be able to view them.

Can I export transaction history to my PC?

Yes. You can export transaction history from checking and savings accounts. You select the format that is needed to import the information into your financial management software and spreadsheet programs.

What if I open a new account after I have enrolled for Bank-On-Line service; will it be automatically added to my Bank-On-Line service?

No. You have control of which accounts are accessible over the Internet. You will need to complete a new Enrollment Form if you want to add an account.

Can I access my accounts from more than one location? Can I use it at home and at my office?

Yes. You can access your accounts from anywhere that you have Internet access.

I am moving to another state. Can I continue to use Bank-On-Line?

Yes.

Are there times when I will not be able to access my accounts?

The system is available 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. If you are able to get on the Internet, but unable to reach Bank-On-Line, try again later. If the problem persists, email or call Customer Service.

I share a checking account with someone else. Do we both need to enroll or can we share a Bank-On-Line account?

You can do it either way. If both of you want your own, separate Log-In and Password, both of you must enroll. If you can share a Log-In and Password, only one needs to enroll.

Security

What about security? Is my financial information safe?
  • Bank-On-Line brings together a combination of industry-approved security technologies to protect data for you and the bank. It features password-controlled system entry, a Verisign-issued Digital ID for the bank’s server, SSL protocol for data encryption, and a router loaded with a firewall to regulate the inflow and outflow of traffic.
  • You can help safeguard your information and the system by protecting your Login ID and Password. Keep them secure.

Are there rules and guidelines concerning Passwords?

Yes. You select your password and can change it at any time. Except for the temporary password selected when you enroll, your password will never be known to bank personnel. Follow these guidelines:

  • Your password must be 5 - 10 characters in length,
  • Your password is case-sensitive; i.e. “A” is not the same as “a”.
  • When changing your password, the new one cannot be the same as the most recent one.
  • You are required to change your password the first time you access Bank-On-Line

Funds Transfer

What types of accounts can I transfer funds to and from?

You can transfer funds between any of your American State Bank checking and savings accounts. You can also transfer money to a loan, resulting in a loan payment.

I know that I will never transfer money from some of my accounts. Is there some way to keep me from inadvertently transferring from such an account?

Yes, you may designate any of your accounts as “limited” access and prevent transfers from those accounts. You can still view the accounts and transfer funds to them.

I would like to be able to transfer money to my child’s account. Can I do this without being an owner?

Your child can sign an “Account Access Authorization” form that will authorize you to view the account and transfer money to it, but will not allow you to transfer money from it or pay bills from it.

I have an account at another bank. Can I transfer funds to it from my American State Bank account?

No, transfers can be made only between your accounts at American State.

Is there a limit on the number of transfers I can make?

Bank-On-Line poses no limits on the number of transfers you can make. However, Federal Regulations limit the number of withdrawals and transfers on certain types of savings and money market accounts. If you are unsure about the restrictions on your accounts, check with a customer service representative at any branch location.

When will my transfer take place?

If you initiate the transfer before 3:00 p.m. Central Time on a business day, the transfer will take place on that day. Otherwise, it will take place the next business day.

I will need to transfer money to my checking account next week for my house payment, but I will be out of town and will not have access to the Internet, what can I do?

You can enter your transfer anytime before you leave town and post-date the transfer to the actual date you want it to occur.

Bill Payer

What if I don’t sign up for Bill Payer initially, but later decide that I want it?

No problem, just complete a new Enrollment Form.

How do I make payments?

The first step is to set up your payee list. We provide an online list of all companies that accept payments electronically and many that do not. Either select from the list or enter your own payee information.

Will everyone accept payments made online?

Most will. However, there are some companies that require the return of the “remittance advice” or “stub” portion of the bill they send to you. If unsure, please check with the payee before submitting a payment online.

How will the company be paid?

Most of the payees on the list receive payments electronically. Otherwise, a paper draft is created and mailed to the recipient.

How will I know which companies are paid electronically and which ones by paper draft?

Anyone not on the list and those with an “*” next to their names are paid by paper draft.

How long does it take for the company I am paying to receive the payment?

Electronic payments take a maximum of 3 days. Paper drafts can take 5-8 days. Take this into consideration when paying bills to avoid late charges.

When will the payment amount be deducted from my checking account at the bank?

The payment amount is deducted from your checking account the day you submit it.

Can I make my American State Bank loan payments using Bank-On-Line?

Yes, either of two ways. Using the funds transfer function, you can transfer money to the loan. Or using Bill Payer, you can select “American State Bank - Loans” as the payee and enter the payment that way.

My house payment and car payment are the same every month. Is there an easy way to handle these?

Yes, the system provides for recurring payments. You tell it the amount, date and frequency and the system will initiate the payments for you.
